Herman Kamaka Ehu Kamahele, 80, of Hilo died March 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired longshoreman, member of the musical group Na Ho‘aloha “Just Friends” and graduate of Hilo High School. Celebration of life noon Saturday, April 20, at AJA Veterans Hall, 361 Haihai St. in Hilo. Survived by sons, Sheldon (Leslie) Kamahele, Shayne (Lisa) Kamahele and Shannon (Janelle) Kamahele of Hilo; brothers, Oliver “Maka” (Harriet) Kamahele and James “Cowboy” (Jill) Kamahele of California, William Kamahele of Hilo; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Ted Tameichi Uehara, 74, of Mountain View, formerly of Glenwood, died Jan. 26 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was an auto mechanic at Chika Nakano Repair Shop, U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and member of Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 5 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers or koden (monetary gifts).
